A heritage assessment is required whenever a development, renovation, or demolition project may affect a structure, site, or area that has cultural, historical, or architectural significance. Any building older than 60 years, regardless of whether it is a large development or a single residential property, cannot be altered or demolished without prior approval from the relevant heritage authority.
